Now You See Me

Now You See MeNOW YOU SEE ME pits an elite FBI squad in a game of cat and mouse against “The Four Horsemen”, a super-team of the world’s greatest illusionists. “The Four Horsemen” pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances, showering the stolen profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law.

My Review

Now You See Me is pure magical. Who doesn’t like a good magic trick? If you do like magic, this is a must-see movie. Magic shows usually leave the audience with their mouth gape opened asking how the magicians did their trick. This movie showed the incredible magic tricks disguising multiple robbery attempts and the behind the scenes revealing how the magic tricks were done.

Playing a FBI agent tasked to detain The Four Horsemen (four arrogant illusionists played by Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Jesse Eisenberg), Mark Ruffalo did a great job playing a magic non-believer and keeping the mystery at bay. Great performance from Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine.

This movie received some bad promotion due to Morgan Freeman falling asleep during an interview. The movie moved fast-paced, full of mystery and have my full attention throughout the entire movie as well as entertained me until the end. All the gimmicks hiding the bigger hidden little plot twist at the end of the movie made it memorable.

Madagascar 3

0

madagascar_3Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent – Madagascar style.

My Review

Madagascar has always been one of my favorite animation from Dreamworks right behind Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon. I like this series so much that I watched the trailer numerous times which probably ruined the first half of the movie for me but that’s my fault. The trailer pretty much highlighted all the good parts of the first movie.

As predicted, after a scary showdown between the animals and humans in Monte Carlo, Alex, Melman, Marty and Gloria hide out within circus to escape from crazy Captain DuBois. What I didn’t expect was the second half of the movie. The zoo animals bonded with the circus animals and when they did get a chance to go back to the New York zoo, everything they fought for to go home seemed minuscule. I did enjoy the final scene where the circus animals rescue the zoo animals from Agent DuBois colorfully (not metaphorically) accompanied by the song “Fireworks”.

Similar to its predecessors, it was overall funny but the comedy came in unnoticeable burst that you might missed if you are not paying attention. Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien never fails to deliver. King Julien is my most favorite character. In this movie, they paired him up with a circus bear.

This song is stuck to my head.

Snow White and the Huntsman

0

snow_white_and_the_huntsmanIn the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

My Review

This movie was set in medieval time giving me the impressions that I am watching something in between Lord of the Rings and Games of Thrones. With that in mind, Snow White and the Huntsman failed miserably below par. Incoherent accents, poor acting performance and bad writings basically summed up the movie. The movie basically rewrite the story ending with the huntsman’s kiss awoken Snow White as the possible opening for second installment. I am pretty confident that I will not be paying money to watch the second movie if they decided to make it.

I don’t know the reason why fairy tale especially Snow White are so popular right now. “Mirror Mirror” was another movie released earlier this year with the exact theme and “Once Upon a Time” series on ABC was the other show which has Snow White theme. I actually enjoy the TV series more than this movie. “Mirror Mirror” served its purpose to be a comedy movie. I guess I had higher expectation from this movie. Overall CGI was good with an impressive troll scene.

This movie has the worst and weakest war speech I had ever heard. With that speech, I would rather suffer under the evil queen rule than fight along with Snow White. I was expecting a war speech similar to the one given by Theon Greyjoy in the season two finale of Game of Thrones before he got knocked out by his underlings. That speech can definitely riled up the troops. Charlize Theron seemed to be shouting every time she spoke and she didn’t portrayed the evilness believable for me personally. I would rate Chris Hemsworth the worst narrator of all times. This has been a disappointing summer so far.

Men in Black 3

0

men_in_black_3In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back…in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

My Review
Agent J and Agent K never fail to provide entertainment. Battling the aliens and save the earth, same old same old but I loved the time travel idea by jumping off a tall building and how they show Griffin ability to jump through different fabric of time dimensions.

I am a fan of MIB franchise and I just realized that the first movie was back in 1997. It has been 14 years since the first movie came out. Will Smith looked almost exactly the same from the first movie with the exception he bulked out a bit over the years. He definitely had the highway miles if you know what I meant especially if you have already watched the movie.

Will Smith was being Will Smith but the star in the movie was Josh Brolin. He made an memorable and exceptional impersonation of Tommy Lee Jones. The other character I loved in the movie was Griffin played by Michael Stuhlbarg. This will probably last MIB movie for Tommy Lee Jones.

I didn’t see the touching ending coming at all. I enjoyed it and I hope everyone did too.
