Sherlock Holmes: A Games of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes: A Games of ShadowsSherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large-Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)-and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder-a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction-all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

My Review

I heard of Sherlock Holmes but never got a chance to read the classics. They definitely have my attention now. I did watch the first installment of Sherlock Holmes but I don’t remember the plot at all. Netflix time!

Alright, back to Sherlock Holmes: A Games of Shadows. It was actually pretty good with some good funny moments. I especially like both camouflage scenes where Sherlock Holmes hid in plain sight. I wasn’t able to pick him out from the scene until he actually moved. Hats off to the costume designer. The directing and cinematography were exceptional. The detail attention paid to the exploding scene was mind blowing.

Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law chemistry was undeniable. The opening of the movie reminded me that Rachel McAdams did a good sexy job in the predecessor. Too bad, she only played a very small part in this movie. Noomi Rapace did a great job as Madam Simza and she was presented with a more feminine side compared to her Lisbeth Salander character in the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.

I hope they will make the third movie for this franchise.

My Grade: A-
