easyGoodreads Summary

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, stalked by her ex’s frat brother, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Her econ professor gives her an email address for Landon, the class tutor, who shows her that she’s still the same intelligent girl she’s always been. As Jacqueline becomes interested in more from her tutor than a better grade, his teasing responses make the feeling seem mutual. There’s just one problem—their only interactions are through email.

Meanwhile, a guy in her econ class proves his worth the first night she meets him. Nothing like her popular ex or her brainy tutor, Lucas sits on the back row, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. At a downtown club, he disappears after several dances that leave her on fire. When he asks if he can sketch her, alone in her room, she agrees—hoping for more.

Then Jacqueline discovers a withheld connection between her supportive tutor and her seductive classmate, her ex comes back into the picture, and her stalker escalates his attention by spreading rumors that they’ve hooked up. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

My Review

I have always been a fan of Tammara Webber so I bought this book right away. She is one of my favorite author on the light contemporary YA romance genre and she never fails to deliver. I finished the book within a day and could not put it down. I love the simple yet beautiful cover.

Never judge a person from their appearance. Tattoo covered and a lip piercing Lucas/Landon sounds dark and dangerous but in fact, he was the most sweetest thing in the story. I am so glad that Jacqueline found him. It took a while for the book to reveal the dark secret Lucas/Landon carried within himself. I’m seeing a pattern here. Jacqueline and Landon exchanged funny emails just like Fifty Shades of Grey but I like the emails exchanged between Anna and Christian much better. Authors are inclined to include modern technology in their writings nowadays.

The love story was secondary to the life lesson being taught from the book. Rape victims need to come forward no matter what the situation they were in to prevent future sexual assaults from the same rapist. Miss Webber did an fantastic job on Buck’s sexual assaults victims’s fighting journey on getting Buck convicted on his own actions.

I can’t wait for more books from Tammara Webber.

Men in Black 3

men_in_black_3In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back…in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

My Review
Agent J and Agent K never fail to provide entertainment. Battling the aliens and save the earth, same old same old but I loved the time travel idea by jumping off a tall building and how they show Griffin ability to jump through different fabric of time dimensions.

I am a fan of MIB franchise and I just realized that the first movie was back in 1997. It has been 14 years since the first movie came out. Will Smith looked almost exactly the same from the first movie with the exception he bulked out a bit over the years. He definitely had the highway miles if you know what I meant especially if you have already watched the movie.

Will Smith was being Will Smith but the star in the movie was Josh Brolin. He made an memorable and exceptional impersonation of Tommy Lee Jones. The other character I loved in the movie was Griffin played by Michael Stuhlbarg. This will probably last MIB movie for Tommy Lee Jones.

I didn’t see the touching ending coming at all. I enjoyed it and I hope everyone did too.

Battleship

battleshipPeter Berg produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.

My Review

To be honest, I actually enjoyed this movie more than The Avengers. It has less line setup and went into action mode pretty quickly. There was a couple of scenes made the movie memorable.

First of all, anyone who gets me chicken burrito in battleship style, I’ll marry him right away. Second, I liked the scene where they tried to dock as close to the cove so the alien ship are in the direct line of the sunrise. Third scene when the last destroyer was destroyed and they had to use USS Missouri, a 70-year old decommissioned battleship that has been converted into a museum. It was moving when they invited the retired Navy personnel to join hands to defeat the aliens. The strategy of maneuvering of the old battleship was cleverly planned.

Keep an open mind and don’t be a hater for this movie. You might be surprised that the movie wasn’t half bad. It was well worth of the two hours of my time.

Dark Shadows

dark_shadowsBarnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets.

My Review

One sentence summarized it all. The trailer was way better than the movie itself.

It seems like the director had no idea which direction it wants to go with, so it was slabbed right in the middle between a horror/drama and a comedy. I knew this is a remake of an old movie which I think it should have been left alone. The only memorable character I liked from this movie was Willie Loomis, the housekeeper, played by Jackie Earle Haley. This movie shown how much Chloe Moretz has grown from Kick-Ass.

My Grade: C (too generous for my taste especially with so many heavyweight casts)

Marvel’s The Avengers

the_avengersMarvel Studios presents Marvel’s The Avengers-the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

My Review

There’s one thing I had to vent about this movie. Why do they have to kill off Agent Phil Coulson? They could have killed Cobie Smulders’ character Agent Maria Hill instead. Clark Gregg’s character Phil Coulson was the anchor on all the Marvel comic superhero movies.

This movie was long. At times, it dragged trying to set the background on all the characters. Fans should already be able to pick the story line quickly, therefore, the introductions are not required especially Pepper Potts and Jane Foster appearances.

I absolutely loved Tony Stark’s snarky comments and Hulk’s smashing. Captain American doesn’t have much room to explore, with that said, I can’t wait for Captain America 2 movie. I can do without Thor. Chris Hemsworth just doesn’t sit well with me. Now, I am scared that he will ruin the next movie for me, Snow White and the Huntsman.

I guess I have high expectations on the movie and was sorely disappointed.
