Writing Magic – Writing Exercise #1

Writing MagicI bought a couple of books to help me started with the writing. Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine was one of them. I was pretty intrigued by the first chapter where it has a couple of sentences for me to pick as the beginning of my story as practice. The first one caught my attention. I was supposed to write for twenty minutes non-stop. Here it goes (probably for nothing).

I have one green eye and one brown eye. The green eye sees truth but the brown eye sees much, much more.

Not everyone notice the different colors of my eyes since I am always hiding them behind my long brunette bangs, me holding my head down and keeping to myself most of the time. Those who noticed tend to stay away at least three feet from me.

I am not sure if this is a blessing or a curse. My world is bigger thanks to my brown eyes but the troubles that come with it might say otherwise. I can see souls or many of you known as ghosts, with unfinished business wandering around. Guess who is the lucky winner who can help set things straight so they can move on? Me!

Let me give you some background about them. I was able to help some of them with no trouble but there are a few stubborn ones who think they can stay here forever and fight against me. The shorter amount of time they can settle their unfinished business, the quicker they can move on to reincarnate. The longer they procrastinate, the chances of them getting a second chance so to speak diminish. One hundred days is their grace period. If they decided to go over the time limit, they will be send to a place which I shuddered when I even think about it.

Now, sitting in my rocking chair at age 85 biding my time, I just hope I saved up enough karma points as well as I don’t have any unfinished business and if I do, I am crossing my fingers to find someone who can help me as I help others.

That’s my first writing exercise. Honestly, I took me a while to write this piece and I did a couple of edits. I just realized I only concentrated on the brown eyes and nothing on the green eyes. I hope I can do better on the next exercise. Moving on to the next assignment 🙂
